Brian Kennedy On Song - BBC TV N. Ireland

The countdown is on!! Brian's new BBC TV Programme - 'Brian Kennedy on Song' starts Friday 31st January at 9.30pm. This new six part music series, shot on location around Ireland presented by Brian Kennedy, reveals the history of and stories associated with a variety of Irish classic songs - from old ballads to more contemporary tunes.

In the first programme, Brian travels to West Kerry, County Sligo and Cong, County Mayo, chatting to Ger Farrelly, son of Dick Farrelly, the former policeman who wrote The Isle of Innisfree, made famous through out the world by the classic John Wayne/Maureen O’Hara film, The Quiet Man. Brian performs the song on the same, now disused railway platform at Cong, used in the film.

The series also features performances from Kevin Kennedy (Curly Watts, Coronation Street), Anuna, The Dubliners, Adrian Dunbar, The McPeakes, Calum and Neil MacColl and Paul Brady, with further contributions from the likes of John Daly, Patrick Kielty, Gloria Hunniford, John Hume, Gerry Anderson, Liam Clancy, Tommy Makem, Diarmuid Gavin, Bryan Ferry and Craig Doyle.

Over the course of six programmes, Brian looks at the history of some of the best known Irish songs, from Danny Boy to The Mountains of Mourne, Whiskey in the Jar to Carrickfergus, performing many of them with celebrity guests at breathtaking locations in counties Antrim, Donegal, Down, Derry, Dublin, Galway, Kerry and Sligo. Brian and his guests uncover some of the mysteries surrounding their origins, while others share personal memories and thoughts about the songs.

The BBC has commissioned Brian for another series of six shows before transmission of the first series has even begun. An accompanying CD will be released in conjunction with the series, watch this space for release date details.
