When informed of the charity record, Professor Roger Williams CBE, George’s surgeon, gave the following quote: "The final photos of George Best shocked many people but George wanted these to serve as a warning.  It was his wish, and that of his family - as a tribute to that wonderful talent that gave pleasure to so many - that a Fund should be established in his name to support research into liver disease, which causes suffering to so many."

George’s sister, Barbara NcNally also said; “The family would like to assure the public that George never took his liver transplant for granted. Through the George Best Foundation we aim to raise funds to carry out research into alcoholism and liver disease.” Personal tributes can be left at the National Football Museum, which will be housed in the museum's collections in Preston as a lasting memory, visit nationalfootballmuseum.com for information
