Liam Neeson hosted an exclusive star-studded dinner for Belfast’s Lyric Theatre in New York on 8th December 2004. Liam Neeson, is Patron of the Theatre where he began his professional career in the 1970s. The event was part of the Lyric’s ongoing capital development campaign, and Liam introduced a number of high-flying New Yorkers to the theatre’s vision for a new twelve million pound development on the banks of the Lagan.
Those who attended the evening were treated to a special performance of readings and music performed by the playwright Marie Jones and actor Ian McElhinney, and of course, by Liam himself.
Brian brought his very special style of music to the event, as did composer Neil Martin and pianist Brian Connor. The menus, inspired by the best of Irish cuisine, were specially designed and overseen by the award-winning chef Paul Rankin. The event was compered by BBC presenter Mark Carruthers who is a member of the Lyric Board.
Speaking at the event, Liam Neeson said, “There is still much work to do in Northern Ireland if we are to create a healthy, prosperous and inclusive community after decades of civil unrest. The Lyric Theatre will always be precious to me. I started my professional career there in the seventies, and it helped to shape my future”.
