The song will be chosen by the public, and budding and established songwriters have been invited to submit compositions to RTE. 'Roman Song' - Brian's new novel is out NOW!
'Roman Song' is the much anticipated sequel to Brian's novel 'The Arrival of Fergal Flynn'. When Fergal Flynn's remarkable singing talent is discovered by world-renowned opera star Alfredo Moretti, the young man sets out from his native Belfast for Rome, to study under the famous singer. This new, sophisticated world is a far cry from working-class Belfast. But Fergal soon finds out that escaping from a troubled past is not just a matter of geography. The more he tries to disguise his rough edges, the harder it becomes for him to unearth his true voice. He must dig deep if he is to rise to the challenge. Moving back in time to the glamour of 1950s Venice, Roman Song also tells
the story of three leading lights of Tosca - Alfredo, Marla Davis and Brendan Fiscetti - and of Amelia, the beautiful widowed countess, whose entrance stage-left creates a bitter rift between the three companions. When, three decades on, Alfredo gets word that Brendan Fiscetti is starring at the Teatro where Fergal works backstage, it becomes clear that Fergal is not the only one running from his past. 'Roman Song is an enchanting and funny tale of coming to terms with your true self, and of how facing your demons can open the door to the fulfilment of dreams.

New web letter from Brian - July 2005
Jane asked me to send you a wee message to say hello and indeed to say THANKS for all your efforts to come and see me on the recent UK tour. I had a great time as always because as you know, playing live is the closest thing to my heart and I love meeting everyone afterwards at the signings.
It was also a thrill to have JAMES BLENNERHASSETT on the road (yes, that's really how you spell his name)...The BLENN (as we call him) and I have been working together on and off now for about 15 years...Can you believe that? Here's to 15 more.
Well, after the tour I went straight to the writers retreat at ANNAGHMAKERRIG, Co MONAGHAN (get your maps out!).... I'm knee deep in the new Novel which is a sequel to 'THE ARRIVAL OF FERGAL FLYNN'... kind of THE FURTHER ADVENTURES OF.... but that's not what it's called. It really is the hardest thing in the world to get the time and concentration to work on the stories but I feel incredibly privileged at the same time to be able to devote so much of my life to this stuff.
I haven't forgotten about a NEW ORIGINAL album either... Calum MacColl and I have some plans afoot.... there's a new batch of songs to consider and some more to write but all is going in the right direction I'm glad to say... I still want to do my JONI MITCHELL tribute album... not to mention a possible SWEETMOUTH reunion.. but all in good time I suppose....
In the meantime, thanks again for all your interest and support and I hope to see you again soon at a venue somewhere down the road, be it a book shop / record shop or a GIG!
LOVE....BRIAN KENNEDY X

'Brian Kennedy in New York'
Brian will be getting BBC ONE NI viewers in the mood for St Patrick’s Day with the one-off special - 'Brian Kennedy in New York' due for broadcast on Wednesday, March 16th, 10.50pm
Brian crosses the Atlantic and heads to the Big Apple to celebrate St Patrick’s Day in style and looks at how Irish music has made an impact on New York over the years. Offering an intriguing history into a rich musical culture, Brian explains how musicians with Irish and Northern Irish roots have made their mark on such famous New York spots as Broadway, Madison Square Gardens and Carnegie Hall and provided a soundtrack to Manhattan life.
With contributions from a wide range of singers, musicians and writers, such as Moya Brennan, Frank McCourt, Dana, Dolores Keane, Shane MacGowan and Michael Ball, Brian tells of such musical greats as composer George M Cohan; Londonderry singer-songwriter Stephen Foster; the ‘father of the American Bands’ Patrick Sarsfield Gilmore, ‘Irish Beatles’ The Clancy Brothers and, The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl.
To help illustrate the music written or performed by these lauded singers and songwriters, Brian performs some of their most famed work, lending his own distinctive style to George M Cohan’s - 'Give My Regards To Broadway', Stephen Foster’s - 'Beautiful Dreamer', Gilmore’s - 'When Johnny Comes Marching Home', The Clancy Brothers’ - 'Irish Rover' and 'A Fairytale of New York' by The Pogues and Kirsty MaColl.
Michael Ball, Moya Brennan, Liam Clancy and Dolores Keane are among the artistes who duet with Brian in the performances, which are all set to a stunning New York backdrop.

Brian Kennedy 'On Song 2 - Red Sails In The Sunset'
Brian's new album featuring seventeen tracks on the Curb Records label is to be released in the UK on 28th February 2005 and in the Republic of Ireland on Friday 25th February.
Containing many songs that featured in the second, highly successful BBC Northern Ireland TV series, ‘On Song’, ‘Red Sails In The Sunset’ is a typically eclectic and marvellously entertaining collection. Stylistically varied it may be, but Brian's usual high quality standard remains a constant.
There are pleasant surprises a plenty amongst the many stellar performances - like its predecessor, ‘On Song’, ‘Red Sails In The Sunset’ also features Brian in duet with several guest vocalists – namely Juliet Turner, Ralph McTell, Liam Clancy, Lulu, Moya Brennan, Eddi Reader and, in possibly the most inspired pairing of all, former WBA Featherweight boxing champion, Barry McGuigan.
The contrasting timbres of the guest vocalists allows Brian Kennedy to match his considerable voice with his guests in a way that allows both parties to shine – and the results are spellbinding. Whether it is songs of displacement and yearning, such as the Ralph McTell opus, ‘Clare To Here’, or the rambunctious, carousing and breezily good-time romp of ‘Irish Rover’ (with Liam Clancy) Brian is in his element, his creativity given full free rein. The album’s opener (and also the debut single) ‘The Island’, penned by one of Kennedy’s great Irish singer/songwriter contemporaries, Paul Brady, is a duet with Juliet Turner and the two conspire to produce a performance of awesome emotional appeal.
‘Red Sails In The Sunset’ also features two bonus tracks in the shape of ‘Always There’, which sees Brian reviving his collaborative role with the band Secret Garden. ‘Always There’ is a Gospel-infused, inspirational track that is sure to repeat the success of the earlier collaboration. Lastly, there is ‘Non Siamo Isole’, a neo-operatic track which features Brian with The Celtic Tenors. This highlights the flexible qualities of Brian’s voice, his ethereal tones blending brilliantly with their voices to produce yet another true highlight, bringing to an end this polished gem of an album.

Liam Neeson Hosts Lyric Theatre Dinner In New York
Liam Neeson hosted an exclusive star-studded dinner for Belfast’s Lyric Theatre in New York on 8th December 2004. Liam Neeson, is Patron of the Theatre where he began his professional career in the 1970s. The event was part of the Lyric’s ongoing capital development campaign, and Liam introduced a number of high-flying New Yorkers to the theatre’s vision for a new twelve million pound development on the banks of the Lagan.
Those who attended the evening were treated to a special performance of readings and music performed by the playwright Marie Jones and actor Ian McElhinney, and of course, by Liam himself. Brian brought his very special style of music to the event, as did composer Neil Martin and pianist Brian Connor. The menus, inspired by the best of Irish cuisine, were specially designed and overseen by the award-winning chef Paul Rankin. The event was compered by BBC presenter Mark Carruthers who is a member of the Lyric Board.
Speaking at the event, Liam Neeson said, “There is still much work to do in Northern Ireland if we are to create a healthy, prosperous and inclusive community after decades of civil unrest. The Lyric Theatre will always be precious to me. I started my professional career there in the seventies, and it helped to shape my future”.
