'An Irish Christmas on CD, Video & DVD

An Irish Xmas'An Irish Christmas' broadcast in Ireland and America (as an 'Irish Holiday') over the festive season brought together a selection of Ireland’s leading performing talent, in a unique gathering in the ancient surroundings of Slane Castle. Brian joined Phil Coulter and his guests including Moya Brennan of Clannad, Frank McCourt, Jean Butler and Maura O’Connell over Christmas dinner, where they regaled one and other with stories and anecdotes, music and song.

Brian will attend the 'Breaking the Skin - 21st Century Irish Writing book launch at The Galway Arts Centre, Dominick Street, Galway on Monday 25th November. The reading is open to the public from 7.15 - 8.45pm.

The Writer's Centre will host the Dublin launch of the new publication, 'Breaking the Skin - 21st Century Irish Writing. Brian will be at the launch of the book which will take place at The Writer's Centre on Parnell Square North at 6pm on Tuesday 29th October. The readings are open to the public.

'Breaking The Skin' Anthology

Sound Minds CDThe very best of Ireland's musical talent have kindly donated tracks for the 'Sound Minds' CD, created in a spirit of cross-association co-operation to aid the Dublin Clubhouse Alliance Ltd and their plans to develop a facility for those living with mental health problems in the South Dublin Region. Brian donated the track 'Lost'. Other artists sharing in the genorisity are U2, Van Morrison, Bob Gelfof, Gary Moore, Ash, Donal Lunny, Clannad, Paul Brady, Sinead O' Connor, Chris de Burgh, The Corrs, The Cranberries, Louis Stewart, Alan Hayes, and Bernie Philbin

The 'Sound Minds' CD (Limited Edition) has been released on the Trend Studios label, (Ref No: A060902) and is currently on sale at all the usual retailers in the Republic of Ireland only. For on-line sales from outside Ireland go to Celtic Note at inquiries@celticnote.com The CD was the brainchild of Susan Jones, Chairwoman of the Wicklow Mental Health Association and 'Sound Minds' is dedicated to, and inspired by a young man called Barry who suffered mental health difficulties in the '70's. It is hoped that in celebrating his life with this CD they can help those who currently live with mental health difficulties. Proceeds will be used to support this work, and to initially open a Social Club in Our Lady's Hall in Dalkey and develop the formation of a Clubhouse style facility.

Radio 2 in Belfast
Brian is to take part in a BBC Radio 2 recording at the Ulster Hall, Belfast on Sunday 22nd September. Brian will be the guest vocalist for the evening and music will be provided by The Ulster Orchestra.

The Greenbelt Festival - A Kiss of Life
Brian has just been confirmed to take part at the Festival on Friday 23rd at Cheltenham Race Course. The event, now in its 29th year, will bring together an outstanding selection of music, theatre, art and youth activities with more than 10,000 people expecting to attend this year. Curb Records are pleased to announce the single 'Get On With Your Short Life' will be released in the UK on 17th June. The single will contain a new re-mix of the track plus the track 'Be Still As You Are Beautiful'.

The album is due for release in the UK on 1st July, containing four extra tracks; "Before the Night is Through", "Here I Am", "New York" & "Get On With Your Short Life (Remix)", with the rest of the world to follow shortly after.

Brian is currently filming and working on a brand new television music series for BBC Northern Ireland. The BBC want your help... 3 to 4 songs will be covered per show over six 30 minute programmes.  Based entirely around Irish songs which feature Brian and guests performing songs on location throughout Ireland, as well as 'behind the scenes' footage from the recording sessions and personal interviews between Brian and guests.

The programme will feature Brian performing musical collaborations with Sinead O'Connor, Paul Brady, Ronnie Drew & The Dubliners, Ronan Keating & Calum MacColl to name but a few!  As well as celebrity guests such as Bryan Ferry, Julian Clary, Mo Mowlan, Barry McGuigan, (the list is endless), talking about their favourite Irish songs.

Sounds great?.. Well there's more... the BBC have asked for your input!  Does 'Danny Boy', 'The Mountains of Mourne' or 'Whiskey in the jar' or any Irish song hold any memories for you?  What is your favourite Irish song and what memories do they stir? They want to know!  The BBC are also keen to find out "I never knew that!" stories about songs, the more quirky and funny the better, even if it's just an urban myth, that's ok!

April Up-dates

Brian will perform with Neil Martin and The West Ocean String Quartet on Saturday 4th May. The evening is run in conjunction with the Linen Hall Library and will take place at The Rosemary Street Church Belfast. The concert will include new instrumental compositions and arrangements of songs for voice and quartet, especially commissioned for this evening.

The West Ocean Sting Quartet was formed in 1999 with the intention of exploring and celebrating both traditional and newly-composed music. Belfast-born Neil Martin has worked with many leading musicians, both on stage and in the studio, as producer, arranger, session musician and orchestral conductor. His music has taken him throughout Europe and North America, including performances in Carnegie Hall and the Royal Festival Hall. Early booking is advisable. TSB Bank & The Irish Permanent Building Society are amalgamating forces in Ireland and the Irish TV Stations are using Brian's 'Get On With Your Short Life' single as the jingle tune to their TV ad.

Brian reflects on his musical career and his experiences as a child growing up on the Falls Road in Belfast. Music Asides is broadcast on TV on BBC N. Ireland on Friday 29th March at 22.30 - 23.00.

A special concert has been organised to raise urgently needed funds to continue the search operation, off the County Down coast for the missing Green family. Brian and his band will perform at the Slieve Donard Hotel, Newcastle on Wednesday 27th March. Brian and everyone involved with the concert including the hotel, will provide their services free of charge and all proceeds will go to the Green Family Fund and on-going search operation. Brian said "I was very moved when I heard about the tragedy, and my heart went out to the victims and their relatives. I am honoured that I have been asked to assist, by performing in Newcastle, in order that the search can continue.”

'OUT OF THE BLUE'.......
Tune into the TV programme 'Out of the Blue' where Brian enjoys a meal on a barge and talks to Derek Davis about his life, his music and his love of rivers. This programme is scheduled to be broadcast on Wednesday 14th March on RTE 1between 7.30 -8.00 pm.

Brian received the 'Best Male Singer' Award at the 8th Irish World Award ceremony, which took place on Monday 25th February at the Galtymore Club, London. This year's show was the biggest to date, with names like Paul Brady, Pauline McGlynn and performances from many others in Irish Entertainment.

Brian will join the likes of singer/songwriter David Gray and film star Adrian Dunbar, John Hurt, Craig Doyle, Maria Doyle-Kennedy, Keith Duffy, Brendan O’Carroll, in presenting awards at the event, which takes place on Monday, March 4th at the Point Theatre, Dublin. International singing sensation Enrique Inglesias will join the star-studded line-up for Ireland’s biggest music and celebrity event, which will see performances by Westlife, Gabrielle, The Cranberries, Ronan Keating, Lighthouse Family, Samantha Mumba and Muse. International comedian Patrick Kielty will host the Awards. Tickets are available from Ticketmaster, Ireland. For those who can't get there, it will also be broadcast on 7th March on RTE (Network 2 at 9pm) and on VH1 music channel on cable and digital tv across Britain and Europe.

Brian is to appear at the 8th Irish World Award ceremony, which takes place on Monday 25th February at the Aran Suite, Galtymore Club, Cricklewood, North London. This year's show promises to be biggest to date, and names Paul Brady, Pauline McGlynn and many more.

Brian appears on the track 'You Raise Me Up' from the newly released album by Secret Garden. The CD was released in Finland on 27th December 2001 and is due for release in other territories early 2002. 'You Raise Me Up' is the first radio-single from the album and is getting great coverage on Norwegian TV and Radio. Fionnula Sherry (Violinist) and Rolf Lovland (Composor/Producer/Keyboardist) bring Irish and Norwegian folk music together to make up Secret Garden.
