9th July:
Susan Turner: I heard it on radio
two last week, while I was on my holidays in East Anglia. Great
song, great album. Last saw Brian at Wolverhampton Civic Hall and he
was fantastic. Hoping to get tickets for Birmingham in September.
Best of luck with the new album.
2nd July:
Sue Rees:
Have just heard Get On With Your Short Life on
Terry Wogan - Radio 2 at 9.40am. Have now got ticket for gigs at Shepherds
Bush Empire and The Academy, Bristol. Can't wait! 28th June:
Sheila Anderson:
I have just discovered the delights
of Brian on Radio 2. First heard the single on Terry Wogan and was
totally blown away. I can't stop singing it. He is a real
talent and has a wonderful voice, why haven't I heard of him before?
I have already pre-ordered a copy of the album and can't wait to listen to
it. Hope the single does really
well and look forward to hearing and seeing more of Brian. Regards.
25th June: Kate
from USA: I recommend everyone take a few minutes out to listen
to Brian's interview on the Radio2 website archive. It is just
fantastic. I have to say, Brian, that for a city like New York that
cannot be captured by words, you have broken all the rules. You have
summed up the whole city in a few sentences. You captured it completely.
I make several trips into the city every year and never could put my
finger on why it enchants me so much. You have done that for me.
NY does have it's moods without a doubt. There are times that the
city feels happy or anxious or dreary. And it is a love affair with
the city. There is no doubt about it. It seduces people.
I have not been in since Sept. I kept holding off from fear. Not of
what is to come but of what is no longer there and you hit the nail right
on the head.
I used to walk past the World Trade Center and look up at it's magestic
presence as well as the gothic architecture on all of the historic
buildings surrounding it. I remember going up to the top with a
black and white manual camera and just snapping photo after photo in
complete awe of the city. Now it is too heavy of a feeling to not be
able to look up as you quoted. Now we do have to look down, at a big
hole that is not just in the ground but in our hearts too. You found
the words that I felt but could not voice. Thank you for that.
It helps to put a grip on the reality of the loss. I'm glad
you saw the city for what she really is and I hope you come back to be
seduced by her again.
24th June:
Jackie: I was sitting in the doctor's waiting room at 9.15 this
morning and Radio 2 was playing in the background. Suddenly there was
Brian singing Get on with your Short Life and then Terry Wogan said "that
was superstar Brian Kennedy!"
22nd June:
Chris Newell: I have heard Brian on radio 2 this week several
times as his album was the album of the week brill, and I also saw him on
the GLORIA thingy show as well. He seems a very decent kind of
chap, who has done wanders for himself saying he grew up in such a violent
place, I have no doubt his album will be a smash.
21st June:
Nora Butters: Just heard BK's "If
You Love Me" at 10.50 a.m. on the Ken Bruce Show, Radio 2. Sounding
better than ever!!! Can't wait till Newry City Status Party!
17th June:
Carmel Kearns: Sunday,
June 16th ,2002 on BBC 2's Good Morning Sunday. Yes I did finally get to
hear GOWYSL being played on BBC 2!! May have been early for you guys as
the show goes out from 7-9 am in your part of the world but such is my
respect for my favourite singer that I was listening in from 2 am my time
here in the US in case I would miss the start of Brian's interview. I was
not dissapointed as not only did
I enjoy the interview but I was also treated to a beautiful rendition of
Christopher Street. Brian, how do you manage to sound so note perfect at
8.20am? Every good wish with the release of the single in the U K .
Looking forward to seeing you here in the US SOON!!!! Slan go foill
Carmel, Somerville, USA.
Heather Dobson: Just
to let you know I've heard BK on the radio every day for the past ten days
or so...it's brilliant. Heard him on Johnnie Walker, who actually read out
my email that I'd sent him, ON AIR while talking to Brian. I was made
up!!! Also saw
Gloria Hunniford's prog today...even better. The first time I've seen
Brian live, so-to-speak....blimey, he's gorgeous!!! Is he single...if so
how hasn't some lucky lady snapped him up and locked him away!!!!! Only
joking. Anyway, keep up the good
work...thanks for all the constant info and the truly excellent website. xx Damien
Read: Just heard BK again at 7.15 on BBC Radio 2, a little
interview on the Album charts, they played "So what if it rains"
and chatted about singing live with Van.
Stephen Millings:
I was driving
into Belfast tonight and tuned into Radio2 at around 7.10pm. Heard the
unmistakeably dulcet tones of Brian. Great interview, continuously backed
by Brian's album being played in the background!
Sue Rees:
The single was played on Johnny Walker Show at 8.55am. Enjoyed the
Open House recording last week. It was strange watching it again
yesterday!
16th June:
Veryan Parker: Despite
being youngish (26) I have a tendency to listen to Radio 2 - like Radio 1
was in my youth! The other morning Sarah Kennedy was playing
"Get on with your short life" which surprised me a little as
despite me having heard of Brian for the past 5/6 years no one else in the
UK really seemed to have. He was also played by Steve Wright last
week poss Thurs/Fri in the middle of the Big Quiz. I have to admit
that air play has increased a little over the past few month especially
with Radio 2 playing "you raise me up" which Brian sang on but
it hasn't really been as much as it should!
Imagine my surprise yesterday when out in the car "So What If It
Rains" was played sometime in the afternoon. There was then
mention of the single and album release. I have to admit I had
thought the album had already been released here as I picked up a copy in
HMV earlier this year. Well last night having heard the song on the
radio I had dreams about Brian doing a concert tour and releasing the
record etc. Having dreamt this I was very amazed when waking at 8.00
to hear Brian again on Radio 2 doing a live version of "Christopher
Street". Worth waking up for even though it wasn't
planned. It is about time that Brian got the recognition for his
work over here in the U.K. Maybe in the near future when I mention
his name I won't keep getting quizzical looks off people. Can't wait
for the concerts am off to try to get tickets possibility for Cambridge.
I saw him there in about 96/97 - absolutely superb. Despite having
technical problems he continued with the show acoustically and proved that
unlike some singers he can sing! I have been a fan since he played a
Sunday night gig at Surrey Uni in 94/95 - Keep up the good Work.
12th June:
Vee: Brian's single is now being
played on Heart FM here in Birmingham! Heard it this evening at
about 6.40pm :)
Janet Brannigan:
I really enjoyed the interview on
Radio 2 and they just happened to play my 2 favourite songs. It made the
drive home from work a lot easier to bear.
11th June:
Matt Proctor: I wrote a
piece/review for the website from Brian's show at Derry's Millennium
Theatre, Oct 2001. I concluded with a note of my unborn child who would
have been able to hear Brian's wonderful performance that night from
inside his mothers womb. Well my wife, Katrina (who is from Donaghmore,
Co. Tyrone) gave birth on Mon 10th June at 4.15pm to our healthy son.
Calum Malachy Neville Proctor weighed in at 8lbs 5oz and both mother and
child are well and healthy. Now for the ironic part: the day before
we attended Brian's show in Derry last Oct was when my wife told me she
was pregnant and so therefore Brian's voice was the first singing voice
that our child had heard from inside the womb. Ironically as we
parked our car in the hospital car park in the early hours of Mon morning
what song came from the playlist on BBC Radio 2?? Brian
Kennedy - Get On With Your Short Life!!!!
So therefore Brian's voice was the last singing voice that our child heard
from inside the womb and we stayed in the car until the track had
finished, when my wife turned to me and said "that's a good omen
that" Anyway I thought you and of course Brian would like to
know and I do hope that you remember the piece I wrote. Much
love. P.S. - I'm off to buy tickets for the BK gig in Cambridge now. Karen
Hamlet: Just thought you would like to know, Terry Wogan played
Brian's new song 'Get on with your short life' this morning on his show.
I was driving to Liverpool to sit an accountancy exam (somebody has to do
it !) and was understandably, not in the best of moods. Then I heard
Brian's voice and all was right with the world... well me, anyway.
When you see Brian, thank him for making my morning. Can't wait for
the album and tour.
10th June:
Amanda Hartley: Hi, I heard Brian talking to Johnny
Walker this evening and he was lovely. I really loved the song "So What If
It Rains?" and I like the refreshing outlook he has on life. I listen to
Radio 2 a lot but have never heard him on it before, so maybe I wasn't
paying attention before, although as I work shifts, the shows I listen to
vary from day to day. Anyway I am going to see if I can make it his
Newcastle concert. And having had a peek at the website I'm even
more inclined to do so as he is quite a handsome specimen if I may say
so!! *lol*
Sue Piggins: Thanks for the tour dates - I'm really looking
forward to seeing Brian. Heard him on Johnnie Walker earlier tonight -
the songs from the album sound very good!
6th June:
Jacqueline English: Firstly, many congratulations Brian on your
signing with CURB Records I'm sure it will be 100% successful.
About a week ago I vacated my usual radio station and tuned into BBC Radio
2 in the hope I would hear Brian sing, even though there's never a day
goes by that I don't have one off his CDs playing. I listened in the
house, car, shower even the radio alarm was set, so hopefully I would be
wakened by Brian some morning,(now there's a thought to stir the
imagination!!)
Yesterday I went to collect my daughter Bethany from school . I had just
parked and was just about to turn the car off when I heard the very first
notes from get on with your short life. (Steve Wright Thurs 6TH 2.21 PM)
Talk about getting your knickers in a twist!! I was clapping and
singing with the radio full volume and I completely forgot about my
daughter,...until I saw her approaching the car with extreme caution,
.thinking "what is my mum doing?" On arriving at the car instead of
jumping in the front seat she tapped on the window and mouthed "are you ok
mum"? "wonderful" I said "jump in." Once in the car Bethany
asked" was that your friend Brian on the radio?" "yes", (my kids refer
to B K as "my friend Brian" ) "is that why you looked so happy?" she
asked "yes Bethany I have waited a week to hear that on the radio, and it
was well worth the wait!!.
Margaret Anderson: Yes, have heard Brian's Get on with your
Short Life this week on Radio 2, first on Sarah Kennedy's morning show at
about 6.45am. Have also heard it on Terry Wogan's show and on Steve
Wright's show in the afternoon (twice this week) so he is definitely
getting a lot of air play!! Have also noticed Brian is coming to
Edinburgh in September yippee!! So the tickets are booked. Stephanie Moore:
"Get on with your short life" at 11.45pm on 88-91FM by
Richard Allonson - it was played after Elton John's - 'Someone saved
my life tonight' and I did wonder was it Brian who made him feel that way
with the new release of his track? Richard Allonson said "Brian
Kennedy - one of the good guys". I would agree with that
comment as any time I have been to his concerts or record signings he has
been very kind to his fans by giving equal time to everyone and great
music as well.
I have also heard GOWYSL on Cool FM at
9.50am on Sunday 2 June 2002 - they mentioned this single was to be
released on 17th June. I have been telling everyone I know how much
I love Mr Kennedy's music. We can't get enough of this great music and your
fans are right behind you.
5th June:
Avril Fordyce:
At last, I heard Brian on Radio2 today Wed 5th
June on the Ken Bruce show. I was in the car and it came on about 11 a.m.
I bought the album in Dublin last year and I love it. Just bought my
tickets for the Edinburgh concert in September. Can't wait!
1st June:
Nigel Hill: I have heard
Brian's new single 'get on with your short life ' several times now on
Radio 2. The first time I heard it was last Monday the 27th May at
exactly 6.38am. My alarm went off on Sarah Kennedy's show, normally
I would roll over and put the radio alarm on to the sleep function, but I
heard this voice and I thought that's Brian Kennedy and I was right.
Brian every success with the new single and record company.
Heather:
I listen to radio 2 anyway and Terry Wogan has achieved God like status
with me as he's been championing Brian's cause for ages!. He regularly
plays "You Raise me Up" and raves about it and then, on the way
to work in the car, what comes on but...Get on with your Short Life. Up
went the volume and I'm singing along like a loony!. I've got the album
and I love it. Have to say though, that I prefer the original version of
the title track. I am also a very
happy bunny as I've got tickets to see Brian when he comes to Newcastle in
September. Never seen him before and have long lamented the fact. I've
been a big fan since I saw the video for "A Better Man" on VH1
six years ago. I
really identify with the fab lyrics to Get on ..... as I have spent a
great deal of my life worrying about my weight and appearance. There isn't
a diet I've not tried and I've even been thin but never happy. However,
after doing a nutritional therapy course, starting to do yoga and
meditation and starting to learn a little about the psychology of why I've
always dieted, amazing things have happened. I lost 2 stone three years
ago and have never put it back on; I've started my own little business, my
marriage is wonderful and, at long last, I am HAPPY and I don't give a jot
about my weight. I am much
healthier, look much better and just feel great! I
am getting on with my short life and loving every minute and Brian's music
is a big part of that! If only
more people could hear those words and really take them to heart...!
30th May:
Damien & Kerry Read: Just
to confirm, Brian has been played twice
this week on BBC Radio 2 in the morning, I was really pleased, as my wife
and I have had the CD since it's Irish release, and it's his best work
since A Better Man. We would love it if he could really break into the UK
market, perhaps this is the year of real vocal talent coming through, just
like Will Young, it's the voice that counts not the face! Very much
the message in "get on with your short life" Just thought
you like to know our thoughts back hear in Wales. Allison
Dinnie:
I wondered if Brian was due to release a new single, as all week I have
heard 'Get on with your short life' on Radio 2. I heard it whilst at
work, so nowhere exciting but it certainly woke me up. Annie
Baird: I can't tell you what a thrill it is to go into the kitchen in
the morning, turn on the radio while the coffee is brewing and
hearing Brian's amazing voice play! My husband was surprised to come
into the kitchen and see me dancing with my coffee mug in hand. All
I can say, Brian, is that you got my day off to a great start.
There are a lot of husbands out there quite envious of you with the
hypnotic trance you send their wives into with your sultry eyes (yes,
including the eyebrows) and that magnificent voice of yours! 29th May:
Roslyn Cassidy
- I
heard Brian's "Get on with you short life" yesterday afternoon
and again this morning some time after 9am. I had to listen closely, as I
thought I was hearing things. Well done Brian.
Mark Peet - Good
evening. You wanted to know, so here's the details. I heard
Brian's distinctive voice belting out the new single on Terry Wogan's
program this morning at about 9:15. Give Brian the encouragement that
there's still people like me, who've been around since his very early days
(at least as far as England is concerned) when "Captured" was
first released, that still believe in him. That angelic voice deserves to
be heard by millions !
Angela Burnett - Terry Wogan Show. Just had another
"Listen to This" phone call from my husband. Just wish he would play it
during my driving time!!!!
Kate Kennedy (no relation) - I was so thrilled today when I
heard Brian Kennedy on the radio singing Get On With Your Short Life!
It couldn't have been timed any better either! I was sitting in
traffic (9.15am) looking at my watch every two seconds and thinking of the
whole list of things I had to do and places I had to be. I knew
I would never get to any of them on time and I was steaming! Then I
turn up the radio because a very familiar and beautiful voice started
singing. It was Brian's new single Get On With Your Short Life and
it really got me thinking of how unimportant my errands really were in the
whole scheme of life! I sat back, took my watch off and put it face
down on the car seat and just enjoyed the music, the beautiful weather
with the windows down in the car, and just put it all in perspective.
The words were meant to hit me at just that time. Thank you Brian
for getting me back on track with life!
27th May:
Sue Piggins
I have never done anything like
this before, but maybe that's because I've never been so inspired before.
Please pass on to Brian just how wonderful I think his voice is.
After hearing 'You raise me up' I immediately bought the Secret Garden CD.
After a night out with friends, I was listening to it as I drove home. It
was a beautiful starry night, and Brian's voice seemed to soar right up to
them! I heard 'Short life' for the first time last Monday on Johnnie
Walker's show, (Good old Radio 2!) and loved it. I can't wait to be able
to buy the album.
I first heard Brian when
he was supporting Clannad (I think) in Leicester. I was mesmerised
and quite disappointed when he left the stage. I was thrilled when
he came back on to sing with Clannad. I think it was a song they
originally did with Bono but I can't remember what it's called-if you know
could you let me know if Brian ever recorded it.
I've only just discovered the website, hence the delay in writing all
this. Just tell him how brilliant he is, whatever length his hair
is! Sue Angela Burnett -
Today was a holiday for a lot of people,
but me being the martyr that I am agreed to go into the office so that
most other people could have the day off, but my day was soon to be
brightened up.
Getting through work at a great pace in the relative peace my phone rang
at about 12.20, when I answered I recognised my husband's voice saying "do
you know what this is?" as he then put his phone towards the radio to let
me hear. It was of course a silly question because I immediately
recognised BK's dulcet tones singing GOWYSL. I was really excited to hear
BK is now getting some play on R2, of course not near enough, thanks to
Jimmy Young for brightening up my day, but thanks also to my husband who
perseveres with by BK madness.
Mary Garry - I was typing
at the computer all day today while the sun was shining outside and you
could hear all of the children playing and enjoying themselves. The
cafe's had their outdoor tables full of people just taking in the weather
and I still had many pages to complete. Then I heard Brian Kennedy's
voice come over the radio (12ish) with Get On With Your Short Life.
It was as if an angel came out of the heavens trying to get a message to
me. I tuned into the words while taking in the very catchy beat.
Next thing you know, I'm shutting down the computer, grabbing my
pocketbook and am down the block sitting outside at Starbucks drinking a
delicious cappuccino. Here's to you Brian! Cheers! Thank
you for making my day! Mary K. Sue Cartwright - I woke up to BK
singing "Get on with your short life" this morning.
Sarah Kennedy played it just turned 6.30.am. on her Dawn Patrol
programme. When I heard Short Life
yesterday morning on the Sarah Kennedy show I was just beginning to stir
from my slumbers (radio alarm) and I was feeling very Monday morning-ish
so it was quite wonderful to hear BK's voice welcoming my day. I have
always thought that he doesn't get enough airplay on UK radio stations and
that he should be played by the major stations in order that his music can
be enjoyed by a wider audience. |
